Have you noticed that everything we use in our sport is either outdated and/or comes from some other sport? Who decided what gear was going to work for us in the first place? How does our existing gear keep up with the improvement in the athletic level of derby as a whole? And can it? Is there anything that can prevent the epidemic of injuries and keep us all skating? When should I be looking at getting new gear? What should I be evaluating when I try something on?
I'm thinking about these things. I'm thinking about them because as a designer (by day), I have no tolerance for things that are designed poorly. I'm thinking about them because I myself have had a serious injury because of equipment failure, and I've witnessed many more. I'm thinking about it because when I'm looking for the right gear, I can't find anyone saying anything useful. And I'm thinking about it because I don't know if anyone else is...
So this blog is a place for my rants and discoveries. With any luck I can help other skaters find gear that really works for them. I'm not selling anything, I don't make money off of this, I am not associated with any business or manufacturer.
